{"id":13807,"date":"2025-06-03T16:06:47","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T15:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/?p=13807"},"modified":"2025-06-03T16:06:48","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T15:06:48","slug":"cooperatives-promote-womens-economic-empowerment-in-ne-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/cooperatives-promote-womens-economic-empowerment-in-ne-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"Cooperatives promote women\u2019s economic empowerment in NE Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kongra Star continues to develop projects and establish cooperatives in northeastern Syria to promote women\u2019s economic empowerment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the start of the revolution in <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/regions\/rojava\/\">Rojava<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/tag\/kongra-star\">Kongra Star<\/a>, an umbrella organization for all <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/category\/women\/\">women\u2019s<\/a> organizations and institutions in North and East Syria, has developed projects and established <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/why-co-operatives\/\">cooperatives<\/a> to promote women\u2019s economic empowerment and increase women\u2019s participation in the labor force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an interview with NuJINHA, Rozel\u00een Bekir, member of <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/tag\/aboriya-jin\">Kongra Star Economy Committee<\/a>, gave information about their activities and their projects in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2018Some precautions have been taken due to the lack of rainfall this year\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt the beginning of each year, Kongra Star determines its new economic strategy,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rozel\u00een Bekir told us. \u201cThis year, we have decided to continue our previous projects on trade and agriculture and make more efforts for some cooperatives we established in previous years. We have taken some precautions and measures due to the lack of rainfall this year. We assigned three families to cooperatives in the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/cities\/hasakah\/\">Hasakah<\/a>, and we have drilled <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/category\/water\/\">water<\/a> wells for agricultural areas. We have developed new projects in the cities of <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/cities\/tabqa\/\">Tabqa<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/cities\/raqqa\/\">Raqqa<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/cities\/deir-ez-zor\/\">Deir ez-Zor<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2018Agricultural lands have been damaged in the attacks\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rozel\u00een Bekir commented on the ongoing Turkish attacks on the region, targeting the infrastructure. \u201cLast year was a difficult year for us because the attacks of the Turkish state have targeted the infrastructure of the region for two years, causing great damage to the regional economy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe attacks also affect us, as the Kongra Star Economy Committee. We have taken some precautions to minimize the damage. We held meetings and decided to install solar panels in some agricultural areas and grow vegetables in agricultural lands. We have a project called \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/coops\/lavin-workshop\/\">Lav\u00een<\/a>\u2019 in the city of Hasakah. The project aims to manufacture women&#8217;s clothing. We bought new sewing machines. We also provide vocational courses for women to increase women\u2019s labor participation. We have established <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/coops\/lavin-workshop-kobani\/\">sewing workshops<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/cities\/kobani\/\">Koban\u00ea<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2018We have created employment opportunities for women in Aleppo\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rozel\u00een Bekir also gave information about their activities in the city of Aleppo. \u201cWe have created employment opportunities for women in the <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/cities\/sheikh-maqsoud\/\">Sheikh Maqsoud<\/a> and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods of Aleppo. We have opened a <a href=\"https:\/\/mesopotamia.coop\/coops\/womens-handicraft-project-sheikh-maqsud\/\">sewing workshop<\/a> and Arab and Kurdish women work together at the workshop.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2018Developing the communal economy is the duty of women\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kongra Star Economy Committee aims to develop more projects in the upcoming years. \u201cWe aim to develop new projects across the region in the future. One of our projects is to build large factories and workshops in some areas to manufacture clothes for women and children. We will do what North and East Syria needs, we are ready to build our society.
